Women’s Rights
Check out the Ohio Women’s Public Policy Network, a coalition of 22 organizations in Ohio to monitor Ohio legislation and advocate for policies that work to meet the needs of women and their families. They focus on:
- Promoting an economic security agenda for women
- Ensuring fairness and opportunity in the workplace
- Improving women’s health and well-being
They maintain a scorecard for the Ohio General Assembly, with listings of all relevant legislation introduced, with information about which committee is currently considering it, whether it has passed either or both of the chambers, and if it was signed or vetoed by the Governor.
Reproductive rights rest of the recognition of the basic right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health. The WOMEN’S Rights Issue Team strongly believes that all people are entitled to have control over their lives, their general health and their well being. They also deserve a life free from violence. Therefore, the team will advocate for the following:
- Protection of the rights of women to be safe from violence, including abuse and rape
- Guaranteed access to emergency contraception for sexual assault victims Protection against job discrimination and harassment in the workplace
- Equal pay and equal rights for women in both civilian and military environments Elimination of human trafficking and protection for its victims
- Access to affordable and safe reproductive health care services
- Medically accurate and comprehensive sex education that includes information on both abstinence and contraception (This does not include abstinence only programs.)
- Access to medically accurate information regarding contraception choices, including access to contraceptives
- Reduction in the number of unwanted pregnancies, especially in the teen population Sexually transmitted infections prevention, screening and education
- Comprehensive coverage of women’s health needs, including but not limited to contraception and abortion coverage through all health insurance plans
- Protection of the right of a woman to choose to have an abortion
